The prime minister has urged opposition leader Khaleda Zia not to go against people's mandate by terming everything illegal.
"I call upon the opposition leader not to ignore the people's mandate by saying illegal the government, elections and voter roll," she told a meeting of the Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) at Ganobhaban on Thursday.
"These days she [Khaleda] is finding everything illegitimate and terming the government, the Election Commission as well as the electoral roll illegal … they'll find everything unlawful as her husband had captured power illegally after the assassination of the Father of the Nation in 1975," she said.
Hasina went on: "This is usual that the BNP leaders will treat every legal thing as illegal."
The prime minister hoped that the opposition BNP would join the ongoing session of parliament. "They should return for the sake of protecting their memberships as their absence in the House for 90 working days is about to expire."
Referring to the 2008 general election, the prime minister said, "She [Khaleda] says the election was illegal, but every citizen of the country and the international community think that it was fair and impartial."
The voter list is illegal to Khaleda as around 12.3 million fake voters have been dropped from the list prepared by her, Hasina said.
Optimistic about introducing e-voting in the 10th parliamentary polls, the prime minister said her government wanted to introduce e-voting in the next national election so that votes could not be rigged by any means.
Hasina, also the Awami League and the ALPP chief, called upon the party MPs to work in a better coordinated way to further strengthen the foundation of democracy.
She also asked the party MPs to closely monitor the development activities of the government in their respective constituencies.
The government is trying its best to bring the prices essentials under control, she told the meeting.
